by Jon Melby

At 15, Jon Melby started flying in airplanes and sailplanes (gliders). By the age of 19, Jon bought his first airplane, afterward hiring an instructor. Three weeks later, he received his pilot’s license. Jon is an exceptional pilot with over 4,500 hours of flying with an ATP rating and 11 years of military service in the Air Force.

Jon Melby flies a Pitts S-1-11B “Muscle” Bi-Plane. Built by Aviat in 1997 with several modifications to the rudder, elevator, and smoke system. Engine built by Aero Sport Power, rated at 340HP. Cruises at 195 MPH and climbs at 4,500 feet per minute. Rated at 8.5 G’s positive and 5 negative. Roll rate at 360 degrees per second. This is truly a fun aerobatic bi-plane to fly!
